It only took me a year and 3 months, but I finally managed to procure a library card for the Cleveland Public Library (downtown location)! I didn't have much of an opportunity to check out the facility, but I am happy to report that there were a decent number of people there.
In addition to having heaps of media at your fingertips, the library also offers a number of free classes. Now, I'm not just talking about your run-of-the-mill Intro to Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint (although they do have those). They actual make an effort to appeal to people of all ages and interests by offering classes like "Patent Searching," "Online Job Searching," "Gmail for Seniors," "Genealogy Clinics," and they even observe the annual "Talk Like a Pirate Day!" Check out their online Schedule of Events to find out more.
If you aren't the classroom type, then simply check out a book and mosey on over to the outdoor courtyard/garden -- complete with plenty of benches and shade to enjoy your favorite works.
FYI: Beginning in September, the downtown location is open on Sundays -- that is, until May when people no longer care to spend the last day of the weekend indoors.

Glad you loved the library. . .it is one of our treasures! There is beauty on every floor--especially check out the "old building" and Brett Hall. . .just an FYI, due to the current state budget crisis and the reduced rate of state funding, the library, unfortunately, will be closed on Sundays. . .but, that still leaves you six days a week to check out one of the greatest public libraries in the country!
You mentioned "Talk Like A Pirate Day." You are officially awesome.
